Piekenierskloof Mountain Resort - Relax to the max!
Last year, we were lucky enough to visit the beautiful Piekenierskloof Mountain Resort in Citrusdal, and the moment we left we were already making plans to go again. Fast forward a year, and we found ourselves back. This time we hired out a chalet, and brought two friends along. Now that we’re home, we’re already making plans to return. There’s just something special about the place that makes it impossible to stay away, and at this time of the year, when the world becomes chaotic, it’s the perfect spot to get away from it all. It’s only a two hour drive from Cape Town, but the moment you drive up and over the Piekenierskloof pass, you feel as if you’re far, far, far away from your maddening reality. We were only there for two days, but we have returned far more relaxed than when we left. You never understand just how stressed you are until you take the time to breathe. Despite the many activities on offer, my favourite part of the weekend was just looking out over the beautiful views of the Cederberg Mountains with my cup of coffee in the morning.
The accommodation – The resort is perfect for couples, friends or families:
HOTEL: The 4-star accommodation offers three different room types: honeymoon suites, deluxe double (sleeps 2), and family suites (sleeps 4). The rooms are spacious, with everything you need for a short stay. We stayed here last year, and by far the best thing about the room was the bed. I don’t often sleep well when I’m not at home, but I had one of the best night’s sleep at the hotel.
CHALET: We stayed here this year, so if you’re in a bigger group or you’re looking for a longer stay, then I recommend booking into one of the chalets instead of the hotel rooms. The chalets sleep six and include a fully-fitted kitchen, a wood burning fireplace, and an undercover, built-in braai. The rates are fantastic, and the views are even better! This is a place that’s all about the details, and two of the chalets are wheel-chair friendly. I cannot stress enough quite how amazing these chalets are!

NOTE: While I was not there as part of a teambuilding experience, I did make use of the Health & Wellness Centre. Inge made me feel so comfortable, and I loved my manicure. I told you I was in full relax mode that weekend!
Food glorious food:
For the food lovers, like me, there is a great restaurant to visit on site. Kloof restaurant has a beautiful mountain view, and a great selection of food and beverages. This time, we chose to eat mostly at our chalet as it was self-catering, but we ended off our stay with a buffet breakfast.
They support local:
Piekenierskloof is a big believer in supporting local, and you can feel the sense of community when you’re there. Some of the places they support are Darling Brew, Cederberg Wines, Org de Rac Organic Wines, Piekenierskloof Wine Company, and Carmien Tea. They are also proudly part of the WestCoastWay.
The first time I visited I wrote the following words on my return: There are some places I enjoy but forget easily, and there are some that I go to and immediately begin making plans to return. I have no doubt in my mind that I will be back at Piekenierskloof Mountain Resort.
I did return, and I’m definitely going to go again! Thank you to Estelle and the incredible staff for accommodating us, and for giving us a weekend of peace! I’m ready for the silly season now.

Also, take a look at Dream Hotels & Resorts for what else is on offer.
See you next year. I’ll be back! I have a strong desire to book a chalet for a week and write my next book!
